Proposition “E” Update

Thank you to the voters that passed Proposition E. The City is wasting no time getting started on this important public safety initiative.
On the Thursday after the election, the Public Safety Task Force met to begin the process of implementing the Prop E projects. The Public Safety Task Force is a citizens group formed by volunteers to provide analysis and recommendations to the city staff and the Board of Alderman regarding Prop E.
The Task Force recommended that the Mayor instruct staff to take the following steps:
1. Flood Mitigation: That the City staff prepare an RFQ (Request for Qualifications) to secure bids for a firm to provide engineering, survey, utility analysis, and other professional services needed for the development and implementation of a short term flood mitigation plan.
2. Allenton Bridge: That the City staff work with the City’s contract engineer, GBA, to prepare a grant application to East West Gateway in order to request federal matching funds. This application is due in June, so immediate action was needed.
3. Police Building: That City staff prepare an RFQ for boundary and topographic surveys and soil tests (rock/soils) for both the “Timbers” property location and the “Bald Hill Road” property location (area located between Legends Parkway and Geggie Elementary). These professionals will provide information necessary to determine the appropriate building site.
The Public Safety Task Force requested that city staff provide these items to the committee next week for review. Assuming the Public Safety Task Force approves after review, it will recommend that the Board of Alderman authorize the city staff to move forward with issuing the RFQ’s and service contracts described above at their Tuesday, April 17, 2018 Meeting. The Public Safety Chairman will attend and answer questions about the recommendation.
Updates will be posted on the City’s website soon as well as posted on social media. We are developing a special landing page for the current website and should have it in place shortly. Once the site is up and running we will post a link on this page. Questions about Prop E should be directed to Julie Wood the City’s Economic Development Director and Public Information Officer.
