HOLIDAY SCHEDULE
City offices will be closed on Friday, July 3rd in observance of Independence Day, Saturday, July 4th. The trash collection during this week will remain unchanged, due to the fact that the holiday falls on Saturday.

DOOR-TO-DOOR SOLICITATION
Just a reminder, door-to-door solicitation is by permit only with the exception of not-for-profit organizations. We were recently notified that a magazine sales scam occurred in the St. Louis area and that just because a person has a compelling story to tell, do not give money to someone you do not know or let strangers into your home for any reason, or be pressured into buying products you do not need. If you have a problem or questions concerning residential or business solicitation, contact the Police Department at 938-6600.

CITY EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY - PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR
This position directs and oversees all aspects of the Public Works Department. The Director shall plan, organize, implement and supervise activities related to the water system, sanitary sewer system, streets, parks, storm water system, and building and grounds maintenance. Starting salary is $70,000.00, plus benefits. Relevant education, certification, and experience is an absolute requirement. Contact City Hall or the City's website for a job description and application.

2010 CENSUS
The Census Bureau has launched a massive field operation to kick off the 2010 Census. More than 140,000 temporary Census Bureau workers are now verifying addresses across the Nation. Address verification is a critically important step to ensure that every housing unit receives a census questionnaire in March, 2010. With this operation, the representatives will go door-to-door verifying addresses and inquiring about housing units. All information collected, including addresses, is kept confidential and protected. By law, the Census Bureau cannot share respondents' answers with any other government agency. The workers will not be in uniforms but will have official identification.

BOARD OF ALDERMEN ACTION
Adopted the following as Ordinance:
No. 2084 - Approving a subdivision (lot split) of approximately 23.6 acres located on Forby Road across from the Forby Estates Subdivision.
No. 2085 - Authorizing the Mayor to enter into a Contract for Drewel Park Trail Construction Services.

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH
With summertime upon us and residents leaving on vacation, it is always a good idea to inform your neighbors of your schedule and give your home that "lived in" look by utilizing timers to turn stereos, radios and lights in different rooms on and off at various times. Also, call the Police Department to request a vacation watch. For additional information, contact Police Chief Michael Wiegand at 938-6600.

VANDALISM AND THEFT PREVENTION
There has been an increase in the number of homes being vandalized and thefts in the City. Garages are being entered via garage door openers (left in unlocked vehicles) and through unlocked doors and alcoholic beverages are being taken from garage refrigerators while residents are sleeping. Be sure to lock your vehicles and remove valuable items and close and lock garage doors. If you witness any suspicious activity, please call the Eureka Police Department at 938-6600.

CALL BEFORE YOU DIG!
Just a reminder that whenever you are considering any project that involves digging on your property, it is required by State law that prior to the disturbance of land - for any reason whatsoever - you must contact Dig-Rite at 1-800-DIG-RITE or the Nationwide number 811. No matter which number is dialed, calls will be handled as always. This action will help prevent damage to existing utilities and ensure your own safety while digging.
