The February 14th and March 13th Park Board meetings have been cancelled. The next Park Board meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 10th at 7:00 P.M.

12/28 Planning & Zoning Commission Meeting Cancellation

Due to a lack of agenda items, the December 28, 2011 Planning & Zoning Commission meeting has been cancelled.

First Test of the Emergency Alarm System will take place November 9th at 1:00 p.m.

On November 9, 2011 the first nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System, or EAS, will take place at 1:00 p.m. The broadcasters, along with FEMA and the FCC, have been working hard to ensure both the success of the test AND that the public is informed and fully aware in advance. However, no matter how much outreach is conducted, or how plain the language is that accompanies the test alert, it’s likely that some of the public may be confused and feel compelled to contact police, fire, or other emergency services through calls to their local 911 centers.

Drug Take Back Event-October 29th

Drug Take Back is Saturday, October 29

The Eureka Police Department will be hosting a Prescription Drug Take Back event on October 29, 2011, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Eureka Police building, 120 City Hall Drive, Eureka, Mo.

What is the Drug Take Back Program?
A program provided by the Eureka Police Department and in partnership with United States Drug Enforcement Agency.

Purpose?
To increase awareness of prescription and over the counter drug abuse issues facing our area’s youth and to help eliminate prescription drugs from homes that are no longer being used. The medicine cabinet is the most popular place for medications of abuse. This program will provide a safe place for disposal of prescription drugs that are no longer needed.

Please do:

Bring in medications from anyone living within your household.
Bring medications in their original packaging from the pharmacy. Medications not in their original packaging will take longer to process and may be subject to further inspection.
You may bring in any medications from a licensed pharmacist, including controlled substances, liquids containing medications, prescription inhalers, and medicated ointments or patches.

Please don’t:

Bring in any medication from anyone who does NOT reside in your home.
Do not bring illicit drugs, (example: marijuana, cocaine, etc.) to the Take Back Program site. Those drugs can be turned in anytime to the Eureka Police Department any other time.

Not Accepted

Sharp objects including needles
Radioactive Medicines
Bio-hazardous materials
Glass thermometers or other medical devices

No medications from businesses such as pharmacies or doctor’s offices will be accepted. Only medications from individuals can be accepted for this program.

Exterior Appearance Program

As a result of a Municipal Code amendment recently adopted by the Board of Aldermen, the Exterior Appearance Program has been reinstated in connection with the sale of your property. For those residents who may not be familiar with the regulations, the Exterior Appearance Code ensures that structures and property do not become or remain in a deteriorated condition. Should the Building Department determine that your structure or property is not in compliance, you will be notified and given a reasonable period of time to address the identified deficiencies. In the event the issues are not addressed within the time period given, the potential exists for the issuance of a summons. CERT Program-Now Enrolling

Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T.) is made up of volunteers that have completed a course of study outlined by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS). These volunteers would then help public safety organizations within the community if a disaster strikes. On-going training for the volunteers will also be offered to keep them prepared.

Following a major disaster, first responders who provide fire and medical services may not be able to meet the demand for these services. Factors such as number of victims, communication failures, and road blockages can prevent people from accessing emergency services they have come to expect at a moment’s notice through 911. People will have to rely on each other for help in order to meet their immediate life saving and life sustaining needs. This training will help those citizens and their neighbors to help themselves and neighborhood.

At least once a week, drain water from garbage cans, buckets, toys, flowerpots, wading pools, pet dishes, and other objects that collect water.
Change water in birdbaths at least once a week.
Keep gutters cleaned out, and repair any tears in door and window screens.
Wear long-sleeved shirts, long pants and light colors outdoors.
Spray clothing with repellents containing DEET or picaridin, making sure to follow the directions on the label.
Look for products containing the active ingredient methoprene or Bti (Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis) to place in birdbaths or ponds, to prevent mosquitoes from developing.

The CodeRED emergency notification system is a communication service available for emergency notifications such as a missing child, evacuation, bomb threat, hostage situation, natural disaster, terrorism threat, chemical spill or other emergency incidents where rapid and accurate notification is essential for safety, plus severe weather alerts if you so choose. CodeRED can employ mapping capable of geographic targeting of calls, coupled with a telephone calling system capable of delivering a pre-recorded message at a rate of up to 60,000 calls per hour. CodeRED can reach Eureka residents by residential phone, business phone or cell phone. The system will make three (3) attempts to contact citizens and will leave messages in voicemail and on answering machines. The system can also send e-mails if desired.
